PROTECTIVE TIN COATINGS DEPOSITED ON COPPER AND ALUMINIUM MEDIUM VOLTAGE BUSBARS OF ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION BOARDS

Abstract: In this study an opportunity for investigation and application of protective monolayers of TiN obtained by reactive arc method in N2 atmosphere is examined. The coatings are deposited on copper and aluminium medium voltage busbars of electrical distribution boards. The examinations of the topography, microstructure and phase composition and wear resistance reveal the effect of the applied coating on the durability and coefficient of friction of the components as compared with the bare substrates. The aim is to reduce the contact-potential difference between the busbars, made of different metals, i.e. copper and aluminum and, thereby, to reduce the power losses.
